Stories
of Genesis retold [allegedly by Moses himself] to show that
the Torah was observed
by the patriarchs from the beginning of the world. The title
comes from its organization of history in cycles of
7 x 7. It was probably composed before 100 BCE by
a hasidic Jew opposed to
Hellenism. Though fragments of several copies of the
original Hebrew were found at Qumran,
the complete text has been preserved only in Ethiopic.
